Someone on a mailing list for an open source project I've contributed to complained about a module I had authored. It was obvious from the complaint that he had not read the first line of the README file provided in that module. Instead of becoming indignant or simply telling him to RTFM, I linked him to the README, explained the rationale behind the problem, and informed him of a workaround.

Be proud of me!
